Collecting your UCS Account Passwords (Signup)

The registration web page can be reached in a variety of ways:

use a web browser on a computer on the Cambridge University Data Network (CUDN) - Including Rooms 1S4, 1S5 and 1S7, go to the webpage https://jackdaw.cam.ac.uk/signup/
use one of the PCs in Computing Service Reception designated for collecting passwords
login to any MCS network PC using the user name "signup" (no password needed)

When you visit the registration page you will need to identify yourself and quote the registration code that you have been given by staff in your institution. You will be required to agree to the rules of the Information Strategy and Services Syndicate. You will also be asked whether you wish to be included in the world readable list of University email addresses.

At the end of this procedure, you will be given your CRSid (login name) and the passwords to your Hermes, Raven and MCS accounts. As automatically generated passwords are not easily memorable, you will need to write these down.

You should then log into each account at the earliest opportunity and change each of these passwords to one that is secure, known only to you, and different from those you use on other systems.

How to change passwords

MCS

On a MCS Windows PC
Click on the Start menu
Hover over All Programs
Hover over Account Management
Click on Change Password
You will be prompted for your old and new passwords
On a MCS Apple Macintosh
From the Apple Menu select MCS Account Management
Select the Change Password tab and then the Reset MCS password... button to open the MCS Password Utility window
You will be prompted for your old and new passwords

Raven

You can do this from any internet-connected computer (at home or elsewhere)
Go to https://raven.cam.ac.uk/
Click the account management page link
Enter your University CRSid as the username
Enter your Raven password (as retrieved in process outlined above) to login
In the Change password section; enter your current password, followed by your new password and repeat to confirm the new password
Click on Change

Hermes

You can do this from any internet-connected computer (at home or elsewhere)
Go to https://webmail.hermes.cam.ac.uk/
Enter your University CRSid as the username
Enter your Hermes password (as retrieved in process outlined above) and click login
Click on Manage at the top of the screen
Click on Change password
Enter your current password, followed by the new password and repeat to confirm the new password
Click on Change password
