Jackdaw Database Services (including @cam email directory and IP registration database) will be interrupted for about 5 minutes between 17:30 and 17:45 on Thu 17 May for a kernel patch.

The MCS remote Linux service and the DS-Filestore SFTP service will be unavailable between 17:30 and 19:00 on Wednesday the 16th of May for software updates.

(UCS) Change-of-address autoreplies for departing users

A new facility will soon be available for students and staff leaving Cambridge whose accounts are to be cancelled. From the end of May, you will be able to set up change-of-address autoreplies using use Lookup. After your account is cancelled, mail to your @cam address will trigger an automatic reply directing the sender to try contacting you at an address you specify.

On Monday 28th May we are changing the way you configure where email to your @cam address is delivered. The user interface is moving to Lookup, alongside your other personal details.

(UCS) Closure of Titan Teaching Rooms for Examinations

Both Titan Teaching Rooms will be closed for examination use from Friday 18 May to Monday 18 June, inclusive. The Phoenix Teaching Room and the Balfour Macintosh Room will be available when not in use for teaching, and the Phoenix User Area will be available.

The Computing Service will be closed on Monday 7 May and on Monday and Tuesday 4 & 5 June. All systems will be running unattended, and Reception and the Service Desk will be closed.

(UCS) Protection of UCS services against power cuts

In the wake of some recent power cuts on the New Museums Site, one lasting over five hours, some users have been asking what protection is provided to maintain UCS services on such occasions. We are pleased to say that on the recent occasions all core services continued to function seamlessly and users of (for example) Hermes mail, or any other UCS system, will not have seen any interruption of service or loss of data.

(UCS) Managing your website with the Falcon Content Management Service

The Falcon content management system (based on the open-source Plone) was released in April 2010; two years later, 56 departments and groups are now managing their live websites with Falcon, with 37 more sites in development and a cluster of sites for teaching purposes. Falcon gives immediate access to the standard University house style templates, thereby giving a consistent look-and-feel across the University. It also allows controlled user and group update access via web browsers.

(UCS) Cancellation of student accounts

This notice is addressed to all students expected to complete their studies this summer, and describes the timetable for cancelling student accounts. Messages will be sent to @cam addresses at least a month in advance of cancellation. Further details about the cancellations, what to do before you leave, and what to do if you receive a cancellation message but are in fact staying on, can all be found at http://www.ucs.cam.ac.uk/accounts/studentcomplete.

(UCS) New service for institutions to manage deployment of UCS-provided anti-virus software

The ePolicy Orchestrator managed service allows institutions to control and manage their UCS-provided antivirus software using a central server supported by UCS Windows Support, so that VirusScan (for Windows and MacOSX) can be simply and easily deployed and updated over the network.

(EDUC) Network Infrastructure Maintenance - Mary Allan Building

The IT Office will be carrying out network infrastructure maintenance in the Mary Allan Building on Fri 11 Feb between 07.15 and 08.15. This will affect PWF Machines, Telephones and Office Machines which will may not be available for use during this time. This should not affect other sites. If this is likely to cause any particular problems, please contact: it-support@educ.cam.ac.uk.

(EDUC) Wireless Access Extended

Good news! The Faculty has extended Lapwing (and Eduroam), the wireless access service, through-out the Donald McIntyre Building, due to the nature of the building there will be some areas with limited coverage. (EDUC) PWF Printing in 1S5 Mac Room

PWF printers not available to all users was reported this morning, this has now been resolved and printing is as normal in 1S5.

(EDUC) Telephone and Data Network Problems

Telephone and Data network problems were reported this morning. This was an isolated incident caused by a problem with the CUDN (Cambridge University Domain Network) - apologies if you were affected by this problem, but this has now been resolved and normal service was resumed at 10:40.

(EDUC) Voicemail Update

The changeover to the new Voicemail system is now complete. All PINs are now five digits long, all old four digit PINs are now prefixed by a "0" You are now able to change your PIN to a different five digit PIN if you want to using your Phone.
