Wireless Internet access, (eduroam and lapwing), is available throughout the majority of the Donald McIntyre Building,  The Science Education Centre and Trumpington House. The Mary Allan Building also has eduroam available.

eduroam/JANET Roaming Service

eduroam is an international initiative that allows members of educational establishments to gain internet access at other member sites easily, using credentials from their home site in a secure manner.

eduroam/JANET Roaming Services

eduroam has the added bonus of not requiring the user to go through the Lapwing login sequence each time, and is ideal to be used frequently in and around the Faculty as well as at other institutions.

Lapwing

Wireless

The [Lapwing] Wireless Service is the wireless gateway serving the University of Cambridge. This service provides wireless hotspots at various locations throughout the University, and is available to all holders of Raven accounts (principally current University staff and students).

If you have a laptop that is WiFi enabled (802.11 a/b/g/n) or a smartphone and you have a [RAVEN] account you should be able to take advantage of this service. Please note, iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch will need to use eduroam.

It is very much recommended that you ensure that when using your laptop: your Operating System is up-to-date and your Anti Virus Software has also been updated.

How to connect to Lapwing

  • Select the Wireless Network called "Lapwing".
  • On your Laptop, open a web browser e.g. Firefox, Internet Explorer, Safari, Chrome.
  • You should open a screen offering RAVEN login on the left-hand side, or Visitor login on the right
  • Click "Use Raven" then enter your User-ID (CRSID) and Raven password.
  • Then follow the directions given on the webpage.
It is important to ensure you do not close the "Lapwing Keep-Alive Window".
